Tampa Bay's Even Better on the Weekends!!

Friday, August 7, 2009 by Tampa Bay & Company
Happy Friday fellow Tampa lovers!  Jessica here with an update on some great ideas of things to do in Tampa Bay this weekend!!!  Pretty sure we've got something for everyone ~

If you're in the mood for a little thrill and adventure this weekend, then take the whole family to Busch Gardens for the day! (They have a great deal for Florida residents; admission to Busch Gardens also gets you in free to Adventure Island -- two great parks, for the price of one!).  Also, while you're there, be sure to check out Darren Romeo, a world-renowned magician as he performs live every night at the park!  www.buschgardens.com

Check out the Florida Aquarium @ www.flaquarium.orgMaybe the kids are up for an undersea adventure, in which case they would love the Florida Aquarium (great for both the young ones and adults)!  After the aquarium you could try a game of bowling or just relax with dinner in Channelside (either way, make sure you cool down with some ice cream).  But don't forget about the Channelside Cinemas IMAX theatre and be sure to catch a showing of Disney's G-Force movie in 3-D!!! Check it all out @ www.channelsidebayplaza.com

Visit www.ShopInternationalPlaza.com for great deals! Now, if you ladies are planning a girls' weekend, then I've got just the thing -- why not some Tampa Bay shopping?  Between the International Plaza & Bay Street, Channelside shops, Ybor City, and Old Hyde Park Village boutiques you're sure to be busy!  Make some time to enjoy a casual lunch with friends and don't forget to make an appointment at one of the many luxury salon & spas in Tampa Bay for some much needed R&R (as you primp for the evening)
www.oldhydepark.com

Visit www.Saddlebrook.com for more golf informationGentlemen, I haven't forgetten... while the girls are off getting their massages and manicures, how about a man day?  Try to golf Tampa Bay at one of the many courses such as Saddlebrooke Resort or TPC Tampa Bay. www.tpctampabay.com  Once the 18 holes are complete, try some dinner at a sports bar and catch some Tampa Bay Rays baseball on the big screen (they take on the Mariners in Seattle this weekend), don't forget to order your buddy a cold one, Cheers!

Tampa Bay sunsetLastly, for those of you still not tired.... once the sun sets be sure to check out Tampa Bay nightlife!  Whether you're headed to the Green Iguana in Ybor City or the SOHO strip in South Tampa -- you'll always find great dining, drinks, and dancing everywhere you go.
www.tboextra.com/nightlife has more great ideas!

To stay up to date on more exciting Tampa Bay events over the weekend, or to let us know what you're up to - become a fan on Facebook @ www.Facebook.com/VisitTampaBay!!  That's all for now everyone, enjoy your weekend & maybe I'll see you out there in the sunshine ~

Monday, June 29, 2009 by Tampa Bay & Company

Hey gang!  Travis here with some great Tampa Bay entertainment options for your Fourth of July weekend.  It's right around the corner, and we are going to be bringing you some great ways to spend your holiday.

We'll start off with the fourth of July weekend at MOSI!  From July 3-5, Tampa’s Museum of Science & Industry will celebrate Independence Day by offering one FREE admission with the purchase of a MOSI general admission ticket. Spend July 4 with family and experience over 450 hands-on exhibits, an IMAX Dome Theatre film, and Kids in Charge!

the 4th of July - Hometown Celebration in Seminole.  This is a kid’s celebration of the ages that no kid, or kid-at-heart, should miss.  Radio Disney will be out there spinning to the tunes and providing some entertainment.  Plus, there will be amusements, games, slides, bounce houses, glow in the dark golf, children's activities, food, prizes and so much more.  If you are lucky enough (and you have to actually be there to be luck enough), you could win tickets to see Disney star Demi Lovato live in concert!

And here’s something I know each of you will love…it’s FREE!  All of the action happens at the Seminole Mall, 11201 Park Blvd. in Seminole, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Obviously there won’t be fireworks inside the mall, but don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of time to get to the fireworks exhibitions after the celebration.

And that's it for now, but I'll be back soon for more awesome things to do in Tampa Bay for the fourth of July.  So, keep checking back.  See you soon....

My Golf Tampa Bay Weekend at The Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am...

Monday, April 20, 2009 by Bay Bloggers
So I had an interesting yet fun weekend while out at the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am. I can honestly say that I had no plans to be out there at all, but when I got a phone call from a friend in need, I said sure why not.

My friend and his dad had a group of people who were to go out to TPC Tampa Bay during the tournament and volunteer to pick up trash around the course. When one of their volunteers backed out at the last minute, it was Jerm to the rescue as I was awaken out of my bed around 9 am with a call to come and help out.

We got started around 11 am yesterday and just kind of road around and cleaned out a few trash liners over by the 18th green at the corporate booths, and I must admit that at that point I was thinking it was going to be cake ya know, a real easy gig...lol! Then lunch time hit and we made our way over to the 11th green at the fame Coke Zero Sodashop tent, and that is where the hard work began! It was a festive group over there and they were drinking eating and having a good time, but seriously could you blame them? It was a beautiful day, free Outback Steakhouse food, and of course... alcohol!

Tampa Bay Buccaneer Great Derrick BrooksOver the course of the two days, this tent was probable my favorite. In between cleaning and emptying out the trash liners I got to see most all of the celebrity golfers like: Mark Wahlberg, Emmitt Smith, Derrick Brooks, Jerry Rice, and of course Bill Murray, who incidentally clunked a fan over the head the day before with one of his drives. Don't worry, she was okay, but of course when he came to the tee, fans were sure to be on the lookout!

There were plenty of great places to watch the tourney from, whether you were just hanging out in the fan areas and watching, or were hopping around from the specialty VIP areas like the Coke Zero Soda Shop, Billabong Club, Michelob Watering Hole, or the Hornitos Agave Garden, you had plenty to choose from. Saturday was a long day of hard work and trash picking for me, but a rewarding one at the same time as it always feels good to give your time to a great charitable cause like this tournament.

Mark Wahlberg gettin his profile on at the Pro-AmNow Sunday was a different story as I brought my VIP pass giving me access to all the great tents, so I wanted to come out, enjoy the Tampa Bay weather and just relax a bit ya know.

Seeing as how we had such a good time the day before at the Coke Zero tent, I figured I would go back there. The day before I was I had a Bourbon Root Beer Float with Bue Bell Ice Cream, and it was fan freaking tastic so I figured it would have been good idea to just have one or two of those, sit down and enjoy the later rounds. Just an all around relaxing day and got to see some good golf as I saw more pros play today than i did celebs the day before.

Over at the Hornitos Tent...I hung around at the Coke tent for about an hour then made my way over to Hornitos tent, which was just as sweet as they actually had couches, a putting green, and you guessed it... food and drinks. After I left there I went back over to the 18th green and just hung out there at the Billabong until the end of the day. As far as the tournament goes,

Nick Price was your eventual winner, but I am no golf expert so if you want a recap then head over  to the Pro-Am website. All in all, I will for sure be back next year volunteering one day and chillin the next, so hope to see you guys out there next year, and if I missed you this go'round, I hope you had a great tiem as well!

As always, stayed tuned in for things to do in Tampa Bay, and check our calendar for more Tampa Bay area events!

It's the OutBack Pro-Am in Tampa Bay

Thursday, April 9, 2009 by Bay Bloggers

I know its a bit early, but I wanted to go ahead and start to get the word out about this one as their is a great pro and celebrity lineup slated to be at this years event. Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am

As always this years event will be at TPC Tampa Bay one of the area's premier courses going from next Thursday - Sunday. As far as Tampa Bay area events go, you can rest assured this is one of the biggest and best, and there is a good chance that we will be out there Tweeting live from all of the happenings and such. I will for sure let you know if that is the case so that you can be on the lookout for us! Did I mention that I love my job?

Hosting the Super Bowl Gets Tampa Tremendous Exposure!

Tuesday, January 27, 2009 by Tampa Bay & Company

Hey Everyone! Along with hosting a Super Bowl comes a TON of media exposure for the host city. Check out this GREAT story that the Boston Globe recently ran about Tampa Bay hosting the Super Bowl! It's a great destination article that represents Tampa wonderfully!

Boston Globe story:

In the imagination of Super Bowl marketers lives a place called Tampa Bay.

In reality, the blue expanse is Florida's largest open-water estuary, whose five bridges connect a lively, at times fractious bunch of sun-washed cities and towns. Take the cultural textures and working-port ethos of Tampa, add the wide streets and casual glam of St. Petersburg, and mix with 12 densely packed, barrier island beach colonies strung along Gulf Boulevard for 26 miles - now, where did you say you were staying for the big game on Feb. 1?

Recently we checked into a boutique hotel bargain, the mission-styled Ponce de Leon, a short stroll from St. Petersburg's Renaissance Vinoy Resort and Golf Club. With leafy pocket parks, elegant museums, and enough brick streets to fill a dozen Beacon Hills, this is a city to love.

Tee Off for Tourism!

Wednesday, October 29, 2008 by Tampa Bay & Company

On Monday, the weather dipped to a crisp 70 something degrees and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. It was the perfect for a day on the green, so that’s exactly where we went for another fabulous Tampa Bay&Company event.

Our 15th Annual Golf Tournament, Tee Off for Tourism was the best way to kill a few hours in the middle of the day. This year’s tournament attracted 68 golfers from all over the Bay area to the lush Emerald Greens Golf Resort & Country Club. We also hosted an online auction of donated hotel stays and attraction tickets among other vacation getaway packages that raised about $10,000.

The proceeds from both the tournament and auction are being used to fund five college scholarships for local Hillsborough County high school students completing the Academy of Travel & Tourism program. Not only was the tournament a blast, it was for a good cause!

All in all, the tournament was a success. If you’re coming to visit Tampa Bay and want to get a few games of golf in, make sure you check out our list of partner golf resorts. If you’ve been to any of our local golf resorts, drop a comment and let me know how your Tampa Bay golf experience went.

No Ticket...No Problem...Rays Up Your Spirits

Wednesday, October 22, 2008 by Bay Bloggers
So if you are as amped up about tonight's Game 1, as I am then you are already making plans about where to go and watch the game, if you couldn't get a ticket. I've done my homework and wanted to try and point out a few bars and such for everyone to go out and support the Rays tonight as Kazmir takes the mound to shut out the Kazmir Takes the Mount in Game 1: Tampa Bay SportsPhillies tonight!

So many places to choose from, but I have complied my list of favorite places to hang out as well as a few that were reccomended to me.  Game starts tonight at 8 p.m. so you better have your bottom planted in a bar stool at one of these places with a blue mohawk and the biggest cowbell you can find! I need more cowbell baby!

You get to enjoy the same atmosphere before and after the game as all the people with tickets but you get the benefit of all the camera angles and replays on TV during this big series. No matter when you show up, Ferg’s is the place to be before, during, and after each Rays game. 1320 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. (727) 822-4562, fergsonline.com.
  • Champion’s Sports Bar (Marriott Waterside) -Root for your team in front of the big screen TV while you enjoy light fare and your favorite beverages. Champions is casual, so you don't have to "dress up to dress out." Located across the street from the St. Pete Times Forum. Meet your friends before hockey games and events!
  • The Press Box - The “Box” as the locals call it has just recently upgraded all the big screens in their establishment making it one of the best places to actually sit down and really enjoy the game. Just ask any Buccaneers fan and they will tell you that the Box has got a very friendly staff and the wings speak for themselves.  I would recommend The Press Box any day of the week to anyone that likes sports. 222 S Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa. (813) 876-3528, .
  • GameWorks - GameWorks is a casual dining experience that features entertainment guests cannot duplicate at home.

You can watch the game on any one of the 11 plasma screens and enjoy the company of many other local Rays fans. 121 Second Ave. N, St. Petersburg. (727) 822-4413.

Friday, September 12, 2008 by Tampa Bay & Company

Ok, so if you’ve tuned in to the Lifestyle Blog, you’ve heard the latest reviews about nightlife, the night scene, coffee shops restaurants and other things to do in Tampa Bay.  We've got so much to do here with the attractions, beaches, shopping, golf, and sports...not to mention the arts and culture in Tampa Bay...But, where do you start?  Where do you eat?  What do you do?

Well, now you can not only get the latest reviews about Tampa Bay entertainment, but you can check back here for a weekly (hopefully) update on some of our partner’s special events, entertainment and other Tampa Bay area events for the weekend.

Start your Tampa Bay tour off tonight you can head down to Raymond James Stadium to watch the USF Bulls take on the Kansas Jayhawks (if you were lucky enough to get tickets that is).  The Bulls have started off the season on a high note, so let’s see if they can keep the magic alive.  The game starts at 8pm, so if you aren’t there, you better be in front of a TV…it’s sure to be a matchup!

If hard-hitting action (no, we aren’t talking football here) is your thing, then head down to the St. Pete Times Forum tomorrow for the Xtreme Fighting Championships.  This Mixed Martial Arts Event returns to the St. Pete Times Forum and it all starts at 1pm, at which time the Chrysler-Jeep Plaza outside of the Forum will come alive with performances from local bands, a bike show, and more.

If you’d rather relax with the fam, then head down to MOSI, where there’s fun for everyone.  For tomorrow and Sunday only, folks can head down and get in for 50% off and enjoy over 450 hands-on exhibits, a show in The Saunders Planetarium, and one standard IMAX® Dome Theatre film.

This is just a taste of what’s going on with our partners this weekend, but there’s much more happening.  Just log on to the VisitTampaBay.com website and take a look at our Calendar of Events.  Plus, check back next week and we’ll let you know what’s up with our partners for next weekend.

Make sure you get out there, have fun, then check back and let us know how it was.  Or, if you have an event you want mentioned, just let us know.

FREE Admission to MOSI!

Thursday, September 4, 2008 by Tampa Bay & Company

Here at Tampa Bay & Company we like to let all of you know about the cool, fun, exciting, neat and just awesome things to do in Tampa Bay.  Since it’s so hot outside lately, we figured giving you options for golf or other Tampa Bay area events may not be so well received.  So, when our friends at MOSI sent this information over, we just had to share.

From 9 am – 6 pm on September 7, grandmas and grandpas will receive free admission with a paid child to MOSI, including the final day of Dinosaurs! The Exhibition!...now how can you beat that?  Also from noon to 2 pm, Health and Wellness Fitness Professional June Kittay will show kids and grandparents how to get their bodies in motion! Grandparents can also enjoy a 20% discount off MOSI family memberships, and get information about Senior Programs at MOSI.

Here’s some background for those of you who aren’t familiar with MOSI – it is the largest science center in the southeastern United States (with more than 400,000 square feet) and home to the only IMAX® Dome Theatre in the state of Florida.   Kids In Charge! The Children’s Science Center at MOSI is the largest children’s science center in the nation.

If you want some more details, you can visit their website - www.mosi.org.  Or, you can always go to the VisitTampaBay website for info on MOSI, not to mention info on the rest of our 700+ partners and area events.  .

Make sure you don’t miss out on this opportunity to spend some time with the grandparents, or grandchildren…or just spend time in the air conditioning!

Don’t forget to come back and let us know how it was…or if you’ve been to MOSI lately, tell us what you thought.
