140 Years of Ringling Bros Circus in Tampa in January!

Monday, November 2, 2009 by Tampa Bay & Company

Hey everyone! Travis here with the ulitmate in Tampa Bay entertainment.  I bet many of you didn't know that Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus makes its World Debut each year in Tampa!!!!!

That's right...each year there's a new show and the first people who get to see it are in Tampa Bay!  Well, it's getting to be that time of year again, and details are starting to come out, so listen up!

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey is roaring into Tampa January 6-10 with Barnum’s FUNundrum, a celebration of P. T. Barnum so big, it is an event 200 years in the making!

From the moment guests arrive, the momentum explodes as The Greatest Show On Earth comes to life in a way that can only be inspired by the greatest showman who ever lived.

Hop aboard and go on an unbelievable excursion that brings together performers and characters from exotic countries all over the world - even from places for which there are no geographic borders.

Thrill-seekers may pay for the entire seat, but will only need its edge as a rip-roaring motorcycle troupe braves fear and physics in the 16-foot Spherical Miracle.

Height-seeking high-wire artists perform 40 feet in the air, all while at a 45 degree angle.  Masters of Musculature use their bodies in the ultimate test to see how far the human body can be pushed in a mind-blowing world of distortion and contortion.

Just as the Ringling Bros. train keeps traveling from city to city, Barnum’s FUNundrum keeps the energy going as each extraordinary act blends thrills and contemporary spectacle to overdeliver a heart-racing experience that, until now, was beyond imagination!

Beginning 90 minutes before show time, families can get up close with some of their favorite animal performers in the free Animal Open House.  And then, starting one hour before the show, guests can join on the arena floor for the All Access Pre-show, free to all ticket holders.

Here are the show times:
Wednesday, January 6 at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, January 7 at 7:30 p.m.
Friday, January 8 at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, January 9 at 11:30 a.m., 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, January 10 at 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

It's all at the St. Pete Times Forum in downtown Tampa.  Ticket Prices start at $15 and go up.  All seats are reserved, and tickets go on sale November 20 at 10:00 a.m. at any Ticketmaster outlet, the McDonald’s® Box Office at the St. Pete Times Forum, or by phone at 813-287-8844 in Hillsborough or 727-898-2100 in Pinellas.

And there you have it.  But I'll be back with more info as the show gets closer, and maybe even some tickets giveaways!

Until then, keep checking back for more great things to do in Tampa Bay and other Tampa Bay area events!

“Tampa Twice” Volleyball Tournament serves up an ace for Tampa Bay...

Wednesday, September 16, 2009 by Josh Jones
Hey there volleyball fans, Josh Jones here to recap last weekend’s “Tampa Twice” volleyball tournament. The tournament exceeded all expectations and proved plenty of excitement for all of those who attended.

In the opening match, the #3 Washington Huskies took on the #9 Minnesota Golden Gophers. It was the first time Washington had faced a ranked opponent this season and the Golden Gophers gave the Huskies all they could handle. Washington stood up to the challenge though and swept Minnesota in three closely contested games with scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-23.

In the second match of the night, the previously ranked #4 Florida Gators faced off against the USF Bulls. In front of a crowd of 3,056 the Bulls lost the first set 25-13 but rallied in the second set to win 25-18. However, the Gators tough outside hitters proved to be too much for the Bulls in the third and fourth sets winning 25-23 and 25-10 respectively. The Gators handed the Bulls their first loss of the season winning the match 3-1.

The second night of exciting volleyball action started off with Washington taking on Florida for the right to be crowned champion of the “Tampa Twice” tournament. The first set remained even until Washington had back-to-back kills going up 8-6 and never let up the rest of the night.  In the end, the Huskies continued their winning streak as they shut out the Gators 3-0. #3 Washington is now sitting at a perfect 8-0 and Florida is now ranked #5 with a record of 6-1.

To conclude the “Tampa Twice” tournament, the host USF Bulls looked to rebound from their first loss of the season against #9 Minnesota. The Bulls faced a strong Golden Gopher team that put in a near flawless effort with only three attack errors in the match and a large advantage in blocks of 15-3. The Bulls did all they could to stay close with Minnesota but ended up falling 3-0. USF moves to 5-2 on the season while #9 Minnesota is now 7-2.
The “Tampa Twice” volleyball tournament provided to be a successful event for the city that will host the 2009 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship later this year on December 17 and 19 at the St. Pete Times Forum.

The Pop Phenomena - Lovato, Archuleta and Pruitt

Tuesday, August 4, 2009 by Bay Bloggers
Hey Folks, How's everyone doing this late Tuesday afternoon? Christina Here, with the latest in Tampa Bay Entertainment.

I'm here to give you a recap of the Demi Lovato Concert. For those of you who attended, kids, moms and dads - my ears are still slightly buzzed. Thanks for that. LOL.

Jordan PruittThe concert was definitely a success and everyone was a happy camper that Friday evening at the St. Pete Times Forum.

Firstly, I didn't know that Jordan Pruitt was Lovato's opening act. Imagine, my surprise to walk in and there's an 'almost-blond haired' girl performing on stage. Wait a minute, doesn't Demi have black hair?

After 5 minutes of paying attention and thanks to my iPhone and 3G... ta-da; I discover it was Pruitt performing. And please note, Pruitt has lovely light honey brown hair, which compliments has sweet face. She performed a few of her songs and the audience loved it.

Good vocals, and plays guitar. I salute young artist who play instruments; so good for you Jordan.

David Archuleta's arrival on the traditional stage was when the screams escalated over the norm of decibel frequency. He was a pleasure to watch perform, and those pipes!! Boy, does he have a wonderful voice or what?!?!?

David ArchuletaWhen Archuleta took to the keyboards and covered One Republic's Apologize, the one and only song of the whole concert I stood up for and swayed with crowd. I love that song and David did it justice.

Everyone was ecstatic throughout Archuleta's time on stage. I thought I saw a few glassy eyed and emotional teenagers during his last song of the night Crush.

Next, what words would I use to describe Demi - beautiful girl, star performer and electric artist. She got talent and I'm not saying this, but because credit should be given, where credit is due.

She performed song after song with probably a 7-10 seconds lights off break in between each of them. She performed at least 7 songs till she ran in for a ONE outfit change. This rising star is not your average diva. She is a true entertainer and she loves what she does. ONE OUTFIT change - ONE. I commend her.

Demi LovatoLovato has a mad vocal range from a 17-year-old, she's only gonna get better at this. From La La Land, Here We go Again to Get Back and Don't Forget. The crowd definitely got their monies worth. I had a adorable little girl next to me, she stood on her chair the whole time, eyes never once flinching or leaving Lovato.

Lovato is definitely a great influence on our youth and that's a good thing, isn't it?

People, I'm telling you... I have a list of what's in this summer. So keep the calender for Tampa Bay Area Events open. There's only more from where this came from.

Stayed tuned for things to do in Tampa Bay. Take care. Cheers!!

Travel Back in Time, 65 Million Years and Walk with the Dinosaurs!!

Monday, August 3, 2009 by Tampa Bay & Company
Greetings Tampa Bay!  It's Jessica with another Tampa Bay entertainment update.  For those of you who haven't heard, the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center is presenting an exciting performance in October at the St. Pete Times Forum...  WALKING WITH DINOSAURS - The Arena Spectacular, on it's tour across North America, will be making a stop in Tampa Bay from October 14 to October 18 for eight performances.

"WALKING WITH DINOSAURS," based on the award-winning BBC Television Series, brings the extinct creatures back to life to roam the earth in a spectacular theatrical arena show.  Ten species are represented from the entire 200 million year reign of the dinosaurs.  The show depicts the dinosaurs's evolution, complete with climatic and tectonic changes that took place, which led to the demise of many species.  With almost cinematic realism, WALKING WITH DINOSAURS has scenes of the interactions between dinosaurs, and the audience sees how carnivorous dinosaurs evolved to walk on two legs, and how herbivores fended off their more agile predators.

Now that you know a little more about the show I can share with you the reason we are promoting this event in August... you guessed it, we have a special offer for you!  This is your chance to join the 2.4 million Americans who have already seen the production since it opened in July 2007!  A special offer in ticket prices is available for the Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances in October.

Thursday @ 7:00pm or Saturday @ 7:00pm Special Ticket Offer:

Lower Plaza Level (Sec. 101-116 Rows F-S) -- $44.75 (Reg. $53.75)
Plaza Top 4 Rows & Jeep Club Sidelines -- $37.25 (Reg. $43.75)

Friday @ 7:00 pm Special Ticket Offer:

Plaza Top 4 Rows & Jeep Club Sidelines -- $47.25 (Reg. $47.75)

Those interested in this money-saving offer should call or e-mail with credit card numbers, expiration date, and number of tickets needed.  You will also be required to provide a name under which you would like the tickets to be reserved (for Will Call pick-up the day of the show).  But hurry, the deadline for this special offer is Friday, October 9, or until they are sold out!  Contact Chris Duffy with any inquiries at cduffy@sptimesforum.com or call 813.301.6812 for more information.

Demi Lovato, here we go again!!

Thursday, July 30, 2009 by Bay Bloggers
Hi all, it's Christina with the hottest and trendiest in Tampa Bay Area Events.

Guess who's in town? Wait for it, wait for it... DEMI LOVATO!! I can almost hear the hysterics of the her fans all the way here at my desk. Whooo-hoo!!

I remember when I was 13 years old, I felt exactly the same way about a certain blond, beautiful and break-through pop-princess. So, I am as excited for you.

Miss Demi Lovato will be performing at the St. Pete Time Forum this Friday with American Idol season seven cutie pie, David Archuleta. Show starts at 7 p.m. so be there or be square. From her debut album, Don't forget was released in September 2008 she showed the world what her true talent is and soon after her second Released in July 2009. This girl doesn't sleep I feel, but she is most definitely on FIRE.

Hits such as Don't forget, Get Back and La La Land are from her first album with more of a mainstream pop genre feel to it. Although, she is a Disney Channel Star of Sonny With a Chance the tv series and Camp Rock the movie, she says acting takes the back-seat in regard to music. Modest if I say so.

Here we go again, her second album has more of rock undertone to it, as some of her musical influences are blackmetal and and metalcore. Looks like she taking after fellow musicians such as Avril Lavigne and Pink. I already YouTubed the single Here we go Again and I liked it. Soon the world will be 'Demi-fied' and everyone will be like, Miley who?

Archuleta's most anticipated song is none other than Crush, which I want to witness too. I must say this will be like a refreshing experience and I have awesome floor seats at the forum.

I am glad this industry promotes such performance for the youth, you are the future after all. Yes, I'm gonna say it - this should definitely be put on your calender of Tampa Bay Entertainment.

For more on this rising star, check out Demi's website.

I'll be back with more of Lovato's concert later on. So, stay tuned for more things to do in Tampa Bay. Peace
