Take a step back in time with the Carrollwood Cultural Center

Thursday, December 16, 2010 by
Hello Tampa! Lisa here with some Tampa Bay Entertainment news.Come see Reader's Theater

The Carrollwood Cultural Center is putting on a Reader's Theater production in January. Before I get into what they are performing, I am going to give you a little background on what a Reader's Theater production is.

Reader's Theater is a style where the actors don't memorize their lines. They read from a script on stage, and bring the work to life through their reading. It is very reminiscent of old time radio programs. Sounds cool to me!

Carrollwood Cultural Center's Broadway Kids are performing a production of the comedy Blithe Spirit on Saturday, January 29th at 7pm. The Broadway Kids program is for young actors age 8 to 14, and this is the first production to be performed by the group.

Tickets for this Arts and Culture in Tampa Bay are only $5! They can be purchased online, at the box office, or by calling 813-269-1310.

That's all for now, but stay tuned for more Tampa Bay Area Events, and Things To Do In Tampa Bay!

When you wish upon a star...

Monday, October 25, 2010 by
You could help local children's dreams come true. Lisa here to tell you about Make A Wish's fall fundraiser.

This November through December, Make A Wish is launching a campaign of awareness and inspiration called, "Season of Wishes Campaign." Make A Wish would not survive without the support of local business and individual donars, and this campaign is to help grow their donor base.

The idea is simple: They want to share with the public how much it means to a child when they get a wish granted, and they want to inspire Tampa Bay to help fund wishes. Their goal is to raise 60,000 dollars to grant nine more wishes in the Suncoast Regions. This includes children in Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco, Polk and Pinellas counties.

Now how are they going to do this you ask, it's simple. Make A Wish is going to use Tampa Bay Radio Stations and other media outlets to promote their cause locally. And they are going to continue the theme "Season of Wishes" nationally and use that for marketing and fund raising. Macy's is a corporate sponsor and a long time supporter of the Make A Wish foundation. Plus, it's easy for you to join in. You can donate, send festive e-cards, donate holiday gifts (which means you would get to go Shopping in Tampa Bay!) or go shopping for many of the Make A Wish holiday-themed products.

If you're looking for a great cause, look no further. Help the children in the Tampa Bay Area live out their dreams.

Keep checking back for more Tampa Florida News updates.

Conga Caliente ranks as one of Tampa's top five community events and is recognized as one of the most celebrated Hispanic themed festivals in the Central and West parts of Florida.

On festival day, Conga Caliente transforms Al Lopez Park into a small city surrounded by villages of diverse interest. The festival brings entertainment, excitement and information for all in one location. "There is entertainment for everyone. Many come for the performers but stay all day visiting the exhibits," said Maritza Astorquiza, producer of Conga Caliente.

The festival includes an art village made up of work from local artist; an extensive youth area which includes entertainment from Radio Disney; a health village, sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida; a corporate village; educational displays; a domino area which will host tournaments throughout the day; a cigar area; prizes and giveaways; tasty, traditional ethic foods and a beer garden sponsored by Budweiser.

State Farm, Conga Caliente's presenting sponsor, will host the domino tournament in their pavilion. Registration from the tournament begins at 11 a.m. Conga Caliente players will be competing for a $500 prize!

Here's a bit of history about the event, for those who are interested:  Conga Caliente was created in 2004 by Coda Sound Inc. Originally, this event was intended to be a onetime festival; however, after 20,000 people attended the first Conga Caliente, this festival became an expected event by the public. Since 2004, daily attendance is approximately 35,000 people. Each year, this festival grows leaps and bounds. Now celebrating its 7th anniversary, this annual event, Conga Caliente is here to stay!

Like I said, make your plans to be there because it's going to be a great time.  And keep checking back here for more great Tampa Bay Entertainment plans and things to do in Tampa Bay.
