Attending BBB at the Performing Arts Center

Wednesday, November 18, 2009 by Partner Pulse
Hey everyone...Julie here with a BBB update!  I went to Business by the Bay last night at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center (soon to be known as the The David A. Straz, Jr.
Center for the Performing Arts
in the Carol Morsani Hall and had an ahhhhhmmmmazing time.  Waiters delivered appetizers as people sauntered around and mingled.  The setting was beautiful.

The energy of so many performers and dancers and technicians all devoted to your entertainment swirls around the room and you feel as though you play a distinct part in bringing all of the effort together and landing in that one spot.

This space has an unmistakable wondrous atmosphere about it that takes your breath away.  Which is why this is the perfect setting for the premier of Wonderland: Alice's New Musical Adventure, produced by our very own Tampa Bay PAC!

It was nice to see Lovelynn from Grand Events of Florida: Creating Grand Environments for 20+ years in the for Tampa Bay Resorts, Tampa Bay Meetings and Tampa Bay Conventions. Professional event design and production, decor, lighting, A/V, entertainment, custom fabrication and sewing, stage design, live foliage.

And Louis from Nola Cafe and News Stand: Featuring a full list of signature coffees, beignets and only the most authentic New Orleans fare. Relax in the French Quarter atmosphere, listen to New Orleans jazz and blues and enjoy a cup of café au lait and beignets.  And of course no event would be complete without Dianne striking a pose!  This picture just HAD to be included!  I'm sure it is of no surprise to you that Paul had his hand in goading her on!

With the appetizers and free drink ticket and Tampa Bay & Company's very own Jeremy Fairley on hand to help you get started with social media in your own organization I think people felt the time was certainly well spent.

If you want to come with me and have a great time the next Business by the Bay is at The Lime 915 S Howard Ave Tampa, FL 33606; Tuesday December 8th from 5 p.m. to 7p.m.

Until the next time, stay tuned for more of my updates on fun filled things to do in Tampa Bay!

Thursday, November 12, 2009 by Convention Sales
Well here I am again, Linda Mummert giving you the low down on Tampa Bay's very own Hillsborough Area Regional Transit has won the title of "Outstanding Transit System" by the Florida Public Transportation Association.

HART was awarded with this prestigious honor at its recent annual conference in Jacksonville. The Outstanding Transit System award emphasizes achievement in efficiency and effectiveness, as measured by both quantitative and qualitative factors.

As part of the award process, HART submitted ridership and productivity numbers for the past three years, showing consistent growth.

Fiscal management is another important measurement, and HART demonstrated effective financial control by monitoring all related financial activities to ensure revenues, costs and cash flow are in compliance with stated objectives. In the last year, the implementation of efficiencies in various services and processes led to a savings of more than $1 million, which HART has been able to direct back into its Tampa Bay transit service.

In addition, HART's achievements in safety, operations, customer service, staff development, policy administration and marketing and community relations were considered.

The award recipients are chosen by the distinguished FPTA Organizational Awards Committee, which is comprised of the FPTA Executive Director, a representative from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), and a representative from the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) at the University of South Florida.

On another note, HART also provides door-to-door paratransit service, Travel Training. and manages the TECO Streetcar system which provides transportation to shopping in Tampa Bay, our entertainment districts in Channelside, Hyde Park and Ybor City.  The streetcar is a wonderful alternative for our visitors and convention attendees to get around Tampa Bay and our local attractions.

They have won my HART and I am sure yours. Let's give our HART team a high five for winning the Best in the State Award! Over and out for now. Stay tuned for more Tampa Florida news.

Star Gaze at Bok Tower Gardens

Wednesday, November 11, 2009 by Tampa Bay & Company

Hey everyone!  Travis back with some cool information from one of the best Tampa Florida attractions out there.  Bok Tower Gardens will host the 2009 Star Gaze to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the telescope.

It all takes place on Nov. 19 beginning at 5:30 p.m., weather permitting, with November 20 as the backup date.

The astronomy class at Webber International University will have at least seven telescopes available for use. More great news...admission will be half-price, which means $5 for adults and $1.50 for ages 5-12.

If you want tickets in advance, just call 863-734-1221 or email phrestina@boktower.org.

Here's some technical info that's pretty cool too:
At this time of the month when only the thin crescent moon will fill the sky with light, more than a thousand stars should be visible at any given time as well as the planet Jupiter; Albireo, a double star in the constellation Cygnus and the “Double Cluster,” two open star clusters near the constellation Cassiopeia.

Other stellar sights include “The Keystone Cluster,” the globular star cluster in Hercules. A short introduction by Karl Gould of WIU at the Visitor Center will precede the field observation.

Gates open at 5 p.m. to explore the observation area while it’s still light and become familiar with focusing the eyepiece. Bring a small red light flashlight that can be made by placing a sheet of red plastic over the front lens of a standard AA flashlight.

A small folding chair, blankets and insect repellent are also recommended. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Of course, you can head over to www.boktowergardens.org for the lastest information.  And definitely keep checking back here for more info about great things to do in Tampa Bay and other awesome Tampa Bay area events.

A Cattle Drive Through Downtown Tampa

Tuesday, November 10, 2009 by Tampa Bay & Company

Hey gang!  Travis back with some really cool Tampa Bay entertainment.  You can join members of the Florida Cattlemen’s Association and the Seminole Tribe of Florida on Saturday, November 21 at 10am as they drive a herd of cattle down Old Water Street from Morgan Street to the Tampa Bay History Center!

Yep, you heard me right!  This cattle drive is being held in conjunction with the History Center's temporary exhibit Florida Cattle Ranching: Five Centuries of Tradition, which chronicles the history and culture of one of Florida’s oldest industries.

Florida’s ranching legacy began when Spanish explorers brought cattle and horses to Florida in the 16th century. To date, cattle ranching remains an integral part of the state’s economy.

The Florida Cattle Ranching exhibit is on display through December 19. Following the cattle drive, visitors can experience the cattle ranching lifestyle by visiting an authentic Cracker Cow Camp set up in Contanchobee Fort Brooke Park.

Within the History Center, they can watch whip making demonstrations, listen to cowboy storytelling, enjoy youth activities and get a book signed by Carlton Ward, Jr. at the Museum Store.

Watching the cattle drive and visiting the Cow Camp is free. General admission rates apply for admittance into the History Center's galleries.  If you're interested and want more info, visit www.tampabayhistorycenter.org.

Have fun with the cattle drive everyone!  and keep checking back here for other Tampa Bay area events and Tampa Florida news!

Do you remember the first time you smelled a wine and let it slowly run over your palate?  Remember the excitement at recognizing the various flavors on your tongue?

If you are attending a Concert in Tampa or have St Pete Times Forum Tickets or simply Shopping in Tampa Bay the best place to begin this Friday evening is downtown 442 West Kennedy Blvd Suite 110 Tampa, FL  33606 at Mise en Place.

For the adventurous in palate and spirit, Mise en Place provides an atmosphere of excitement where one is not afraid to ask questions and try something new and dynamic.  This is no ordinary Tampa Bar but a place where you could enjoy an evening of fine dining or kick your feet up at the bar and catch some Buccaneers Football or watch some Tampa Florida News.

At Mise en Place the beverage manager exposes you to a fine array of outstanding wines.  Earning the Bern Laxer Award of Excellence for “Best Bartender in Tampa”, and still holding on to the prestigious crystal pineapple to prove it, Dave Madera continually wows us with tasty beverages.

Throwing Away Free Money at BBB

Monday, November 2, 2009 by Partner Pulse
I went to Business by the Bay last night at Stump’s Supper Club and actually had a great time at one of the best Tampa Bars in the Channelside District.  There was a guy playing the bass.  And I mean an actual bass like in an orchestra not a bass guitar.  Another guy played the keyboard and sang.

We could have lived without the singing but the music did set up a great environment.  Tampa Bay Entertainment keeps getting better each year I live here.

When I got there I was given a free drink ticket and some free bucks to use at the gambling tables provided by Delite Entertainment.  There’s nothing like alcohol and gambling to make for a great night!  The Tampa Bay Hotel sales departments were out in full force.  And it’s always fun to see the guys from The Florida Aquarium.

A few chicken fingers later and I’m ready to throw away some free money at the gambling table.  It took 1.3 minutes flat for me to lose everything but the experience was certainly enjoyable.  These days with the Tampa Florida News about the economy any reason to laugh is worth the effort.

If you want to come with me and have a great time the next Business by the Bay is at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center in Carol Morsani Hall November 17th at 5:30 p.m.  We'll be celebrating Wonderland: Alice's New Musical Adventure!

Phil Vassar Rocks out in Tampa Bay!

Thursday, October 29, 2009 by Tampa Bay & Company

Hey everyone!  Travis here with some cool Tampa Bay entertainment news!  Phil Vassar will return to rock the Dallas Bull's stage on Friday, Nov. 13 - the only chance Vassar fans will have to see him in the Sunshine State during his current tour.

This guy's a singer, songwriter, piano player... and one heck of a performer!  here's some info they just sent us:

From his tousled blond tresses to his charming, heartfelt lyrics, Vassar was born to be a country performer. While he hails from Virginia, Vassar got his start after opening an Italian restaurant in Nashville with a friend, where he began performing cover songs as well as some melodies of his own. Shortly thereafter, Vassar began co-writing songs for some of country's greatest, including Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson and Neal McCoy.

The lead off single to Vassar's self-titled debut album, "Carlene" was followed by "Just Another Day in Paradise," which served as his first Number One hit as a country singer. In 2002, he co-wrote and performed a charity single called "Words Are Your Wheels" to promote literacy.

Released exclusively through Wal-Mart stores, this song featured guest vocals from Kenny Chesney, Brooks & Dunn, Martina McBride and Sara Evans. Vassar's 2008 album titled Prayer of a Common Man produced what might be his most well-known hit, "Love is a Beautiful Thing."

Like we said, it's at the Dallas Bull!  The Bull was recently named "Tampa's most popular nightclub" by the Tampa Bay Times and upholds their reputation by housing 20,000 visitors each month and catering to a variety of attendees.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the cost of attendance is $9.95 in advance through Ticketmaster or www.Dallasbull.com. Tickets are $15 at the door.  So make sure you plans and head out to enjoy this cool Tampa Bay entertainment.

And keep checking back as we'll keep brining you more great things to do in Tampa Bay, and information about other Tampa Bay area events.
