Back to reality, kids!

It's truly the end of an era as we see the final Tampa Film Review this Friday, January 9, 2009...

You are invited to attend the FINAL Tampa Film Review (TFR) hosted by Pete and Paul Guzzo on Friday, January 9 from 8 – 10 p.m. at the Italian Club, 1731 East Seventh Ave.

The event is FREE and OPEN to the public.

The Italian Club invites everyone to join them at their weekly happy hour prior to the TFR. Happy hour begins at 6 p.m. The happy hour features a $10 buffet and drink specials.

Thank Cigar City Magazine for sponsoring the event.

The final TFR will showcase some of the BEST short films made here in Tampa Bay that we have shown since the TFR’s inception in January 2004.

Every month for the past five years, TFR has showcased films produced by Tampa filmmakers. The fact that we have been able to fill so many months of programming with locally produced films is a testament to the talent in the Tampa Bay area. We hope everyone can come out and support the final installment of this event.

And a note from Paul...

My brother and I would like to thank everyone who has supported the TFR over the past five years and who helped to make it the best film event in the area throughout that time. We began five years ago with a crowd of 20 – 30 people a month, and have grown to regular crowds of over 100 people, sometimes peeking at over 300 people! When the event began, we told people that we were the only regular outlet for local filmmakers to showcase their work. We are proud that five years later, that is no longer the case, as numerous events have been founded since, providing local filmmakers with a variety of venues willing to showcase their art.

I cannot put into words how proud my brother and I are of the event we founded five years ago. We feel it not only helped the local film community, but Ybor City as well, as it brought a positive event to a community that my brother and I both love.

It would mean a lot to us if everyone came out and celebrated the amazing five year run this event has enjoyed. If you have ever attended a TFR over the past five years, please come one more time. If you have never attended a TFR, come on out for the first time and see firsthand the amazing film talent Tampa Bay boasts.
I hope to see everyone there for a record breaking crowd at a local film event.

Pete's words ring so true - we have so many talented individuals in the Bay Area producing quality work and now, so many avenues for showcasing that work. Pete and Paul blazed a tail through Tampa's film community and we're so grateful to them.

In festival news, check out the new Gasparilla International Film Festival website. It's packed full of good information, whether you're a movie-goer, potential volunteer, or just curious about what the festival has to offer.

I wish everyone a safe and prosperous 2009. May we all be blessed with health, happiness and an increased state film incentive!

Happy New Year everyone! With the New Year comes new and exciting opportunities for publicity about the Bay area. Check out the awesome Super Bowl article that is currently posted on www.SouthernLiving.com. On Dec. 28, Tampa Bay got a great write up in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper regarding events and activities for fans who are in the Tampa area for the big game as well as in Florida Trend magazine which illustrates the economics behind a Super Bowl and why it’s so important to our local economy.

As we get closer and closer to Feb. 1, more and more visitors will be searching out information on shopping in Tampa Bay, Tampa Bay area beaches entertainment and attractions. As you know, Super Bowl is big business and that's why this expansive coverage on our area is so vitally important to our partners in these uncertain economic times.

As the the weeks leading up to the game dwindle, I'm continuing to pitch broadcast affiliates, daily newspapers and magazines to carry on the publicity around this exciting event.

Oh and a big shout out to Ybor City, which has been highlighted in virtually every article published over the past few months and of course in the Super Bowl coverage of late. I lived in Ybor City for three years and loved every minute of it. It's nice that the travel journalists from around the world think it's pretty great too.

Ok, we always provide you with the best things to do in Tampa Bay, so when this came across the computer screen, we just had to share.  This just in from the City of Tampa –

On-street parking and public lot parking in the area will available until 1:00pm (firm).  Parking signs will be installed stating “No Parking After 1pm”. Cars must be removed by 1:00pm to avoid towing.  Pedestrian barricades will be installed starting at 1:30 pm on 7th Avenue from 14th St. to 20th St.  No on-street parking will be permitted between 20th St. and 26th St.

7th Avenue from Nick Nuccio Parkway to 21st Street and north/south side streets from 6th Ave to Palm will be closed by 3:30pm, unless crowds call for an earlier closure. Westbound traffic on Palm will be allowed to turn south on 15th Street to utilize the Centro Ybor Valet and Palm Ave Garage. The event will end at approximately 8:30pm. The pedestrian barricades will be removed following the parade, and 7th Ave will be re-opened at 9:00pm unless crowds dictate otherwise.

Hi everyone! I just found out about another fantastic (and different) way to celebrate the holidays with your family and friends.

Olympus Limousine and Sedan Service has created a Christmas Light Tour Package so that you and the ones you love can experience the twinkling holiday décor throughout Tampa Bay worry-free. Olympus offers a fleet of vehicles that are able to cater to any party size, whether it’s a romantic evening for 2 or a party of 55.

Let an Olympus limousine chauffer you and your family and friends throughout the Tampa Bay area and see the city aglow with holiday cheer.

Olympus limousines come equipped with glasses, ice and napkins so don’t forget to bring gingerbread cookies and egg nog! To help make the evening tour festive and memorable, the limousine will also play your favorite holiday songs (Chipmunk’s Christmas Classics anyone?) and put a crackling fire at your feet (on the limousine’s T.V., of course).

Choose from either a three-hour tour or a five-hour tour. Make your reservations soon, before the holidays pass you by. Take some time to cherish the moment and experience a piece of Tampa Bay’s Christmas cheer.

So if you are looking for something family oriented and fun to do around the Super Bowl in Tampa Bay, then look no further. Tickets went on sale this month at Ticketmaster for the The NFL Experience presented by Bank of America, pro football’s interactive fan festival that annually precedes the the big game. The events will take place on Jan. 24-25, Jan. 29-31 and will be located next to Raymond James Stadium

The NFL Experience spans nearly 850,000 square feet, and features more than 50 interactive games and attractions. Fans who attend The NFL Experience may test their skills in a variety of football attractions in which they can run, throw, punt, kick and pass just like the pros.

For the skinny on this event and others going on in Tampa around the Super Bowl, visit the Super Bowl Host Committee website for more info. Until then, be sure to get your hotel, air and other travel arrangements together for the big game as they are going fast! Only 51 days left!

Since December is a special month, I knew that I had to choose a very special place for my monthly feature venue. And Teatro on Seventh is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been in Tampa (and I've lived here all my life!).
Teatro on Seventh exteriorTeatro on Seventh is an upscale dining facility set in the historic Centro Espanol building which was built in 1912, and is located in the heart of Ybor City. Upon entering the old brick building, you climb a magnificent marble staircase up to the second floor, through grandiose double doors and into the grand ballroom that is now Teatro on Seventh. The 7,000-square-foot ballroom is absolutely stunning, boasting original engraved tin ceilings, parquet wood floors and dramatic views of Ybor City through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Teatro on Seventh interior

The restaurant can be used to accommodate up to 275 guests for a seated dinner and up to 800 guests for a cocktail reception. Complete with a dance floor, this space is absolutely perfect for a dance party, wedding reception or opening night reception for your next convention. The restaurant is also open for lunch Monday through Friday and dinner is served daily.

Make sure to stop by Teatro on Seventh the next time you're in Ybor City. It's truly a dazzling sight to see, and I've heard the food is scrumptious too!

Well its always good to see cool and interesting web site. Recently our friends over at Gameworks in Ybor City, re-did the look and feel of their website to reflect a more user friendly experience.

Gameworks New Look and FeelAfter browsing around a bit, it just seems to flow allot better with a more concise delivery of the content and good incorporation of flash to give you that sleek gun metal look and feel. Whether you are looking to log on and plan that Tampa Bay Meeting at Gameworks, or you just want to plan your kids birthday party, you can set it all up on the new site.

Those guys didnt stop at the actual re-design either, as  they decided to upgrade the menu! That is pretty amazing when you consider that the food was already slammin, so I am looking forward to getting over there and testing out that menu personally!

The coolest feature is the holiday section. Here you can create a holiday card, get a gameworks coupon, or enter to win great prizes. So Kudos to the Gameworks crew for putting it together and be sure to check it out online and be sure to stop by and let the games begin!

Ok, I am about to provide a list of things to do in Tampa Bay that is unlike anything you have seen.

Hey people, Brooke here and yes, this is my FIRST blog! Whoopee! And to initiate myself into the blog world, I wanted to share the good news about Tampa International Airport. The “Today Show” announced TIA as the best overall airport in the country by Zagat… Ok, that deserves another Whoopee! Minneapolis/St. Paul and Denver came in second and third respectively. This follows on the heels of a recent survey that put TIA as #2 in the country as one of America’s best airports for children.

My hats off to the airport staff for, well, doing everything it is that they do day in and day out! I’m sure some of the many things that they do is keep an impeccably clean facility, have friendly staff that supports fabulous customer service, and thanks to wonderful planning, they make sure that the accessibility and ease of use of Tampa International Airport continues to be top notch.  Now if they would only offer a seminar to teach me to pack without bringing my entire wardrobe and every single shoe I own! Which at last count was nearing 72 pairs…

Here’s the link so you can check it out for yourself:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27876333/

And that’s what I’ll say about that. Stay tuned for my next blog about which pair of shoes is my favorite pair to walk around Ybor City in. And yes, I do have a pair in mind.

Our fabulous weather is a premier Tampa, Florida attraction. This weekend is bound to be sunny and cool, perfect for a day outdoors. Our partners have planned ahead and put together some fun in the sun for you at a few favorite local Tampa Bay area events!

Saturday, Plant City is hosting the 6th Annual Plant City Pig Jam State BBQ Championship. Pig Jam is a BBQ festival where locals compete in professional, amateur and kid’s BBQ competitions. Throughout the day, there will be live entertainment, local taverns, shopping, and did I mention barbeque?

On Sunday, Hyde Park Village will be the home of the Gasparilla Film Festival Children’s Day. From 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., three will be children’s activities like origami, face painting and moon bounce. There will also be clowns music and food. From 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., grab your pillows and blankets from the car and settle down to watch a family movie together.

Both festivals have free admission, so pile everyone in the car and spend sometime outside in Tampa Bay this weekend! For a complete list of things to do in Tampa Bay this weekend, check out our Calendar of Events.

That’s right!  After months of effort and planning, the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee has chosen to host the 2015 Women’s Final Four Championship in Tampa Bay!  The Women’s Final Four rolled through Tampa Bay this past April, and to say it was a success wouldn’t do it justice.

No matter who you are, or where you worked, this past April you absolutely KNEW that the NCAA Women’s Final Four was here.  This one single tournament has an estimated Direct Economic Impact of more than $19 MILLION.

That means, whether it’s an attraction, a restaurant, or a hotel…or even if you were just having your meeting or convention in the area, then this event had an impact on you.

From the Westshore District to Ybor City and throughout Tampa Bay, there were Women’s Final Four activities going on everywhere.  As far as things to do in Tampa Bay were concerned, this topped the list.  And now we can look forward to its return in 2015.

The NCAA also chose host cities for 2012-16, which were: 2012 – Denver, Colo.; 2013 – New Orleans, La.; 2014 – Nashville, Tenn.; 2015 – Tampa Bay, Fla.; 2016 – Indianapolis, Ind.

Check out some more information here – Women’s Final Four in Tampa Bay.

Were you here for the last Women’s Final Four, or have you attended the event elsewhere?  Drop a line and tell us about it.

Until next time, keep checking back here for the latest on Tampa Bay area events.  From attractions to hotel updates and even Tampa Bay emergency information, we’ll have it ready for you.

Soccer in Tampa BayAre you ready for some USL SoccerFest!  November 20-25th marks this year’s third annual USL Soccer Fest in Tampa.  This annual event is hosted together by USL and the Tampa Bay Sports Commission.  This year’s annual event consists of a five day Super Y-League North American Finals, a five-a-side frenzy, a three day USL Annual General Meeting and various festivities throughout.

Soccer matches will be played at Ed Radice Sports Complex along with the Land O’Lakes Recreation Center.  Watch as over 130 youth soccer teams from North America battle it out for their chance at a league championship.

The USL Annual General Meeting is a three day meeting which will be held at the host hotel in the Grand Hyatt.  This meeting consists of over 300 plus soccer coaches, franchises, and team owners discussing important issues facing the USL community.  During the AGM, there will also be numerous seminars and expos on how to improve and build up individual USL organizations.

Another great example of a  great sports event here in the bay area!  Be sure to check out all the games and  enjoy Tampa Bay in your downtime!

I am sure that you are as ready for the weekend as I am. And as I have said before, there is so much to do in Tampa Bay, that there is just no possible way to fit everything in. Here are a few Tampa Bay area events and activites from our partners going on this weekend.

Tonight, Channelside Bay Plaza is hosting a smooth jazz session in the Channelside Courtyard. From 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. stop by for the smooth sounds of Al Chisolm + The On Que Players. Afterwards, you can walk over to Howl at the Moon and sing along with the piano players, Splitsville and try to strike out in a bowling match against your friends, Sling Shots for line dancing lessons or one of the many other Channelside Bay Plaza hot spots for some Tampa Bay nightlife.

Saturday, head over to Centennial Park in Ybor City to celebrate the history that once made Tampa the “Cigar Capital of the World’ with the 10th Annual Cigar Heritage Festival. The festival will include a kid zone, lessons in Sicilian wine making and sausage making, cigar rolling, dominos, live entertainment and even a charity beer garden. Oh, and did I mention it’s free admission?

If you’re still going strong Sunday night, Jimmy Fallon will be at the Tampa Improv. Tickets are sold out for both showings Saturday night, so if you want to get in on Sunday, log on and buy your tickets A.S.A.P! Jimmy Fallon, one of my favorite comedians, is best known for his impressions on Saturday Night Live and roles in movies like Taxi and Fever Pitch.

A weekend like this will probably leave you with a severe case of the Monday’s when it’s over. Make sure you come back and tell me how it went and what you’re planning for next weekend. Until then, have fun and be safe! For a complete list of Tampa Bay area events, check out our Calendar of Events.

Whew? Is everyone as whipped as I am? Things are starting to get busy around here, thanks in part to the beautiful weather and of course, to the 2009 Super Bowl which is now just weeks away!

We've hosted a number of productions in the market recently including a PSA for Metropolitan Ministries, a catalog and online shoot for Delia's, a commercial for Bright House Networks, a documentary shoot for The Discovery Channel. Coming up this week we've got Goodyear Tires, Nike Canada, and a commercial spot for Everest University.

And lately we've seen a dramatic increase in student film projects, compliments of the University of Tampa's Film and Media Arts program.

Hope to see you at tonight's Tampa Film Review. Don't forget they've moved to a new location -

Romeo’s Art Gallery
